Motherboard Repair Cost in Malaysia (2026)
Last updated:
'Motherboard problem' is what most shops say right before quoting you a replacement board or a new device. Usually it is one failed component on that board: a chip, a fuse, a corroded trace. Board-level repair fixes the component instead of throwing away the board, and the price difference is large.
Motherboard Repair Cost by Device
- Smartphone board repair: RM 250 – RM 700
- Tablet / iPad board repair: RM 280 – RM 750
- Windows laptop board repair: RM 300 – RM 900
- MacBook logic board repair: RM 400 – RM 1,200
- For comparison, board replacement typically runs RM 1,200 – RM 4,000
What actually fails on a motherboard
- Power management ICs, the usual suspect when a device is fully dead.
- Charging circuits after cheap chargers, power surges, or lightning storms.
- Corroded traces and connectors after water exposure.
- Failed capacitors or shorted components that drain the battery in hours.
- NAND or memory faults causing boot loops.
- Broken solder joints from drops, common under big chips like the GPU.
How board-level repair works
First, diagnosis under a microscope with a thermal camera and a bench power supply, because the visible symptom rarely names the guilty component. A device drawing wrong current on the bench tells us which rail is shorted, and heat tells us which chip. Then the failed part is replaced with micro-soldering. The board you own stays the board you own, which also means your data stays where it is.
Repair or replace? The honest maths
Board repair makes sense when the repair costs less than half the device's replacement value, and it usually does. A RM 500 logic board repair on a RM 4,000 MacBook is easy maths. A RM 400 repair on a RM 700 phone is not, and we will say so. Water-damaged boards get a caveat: corrosion can resurface months later, so we grade them honestly after cleaning rather than promising eternal life.
Your data survives this
This is the part people worry about most. Component-level repair does not touch your storage. On phones the storage chip stays on your board; on most laptops the SSD is separate entirely. Even on boards too damaged to save, we can usually transplant storage or recover data as a separate job. Tell us upfront if the data matters more than the device, because it changes the approach.
