Laptop SSD Upgrade Cost in Malaysia (2026)
Last updated:
If your laptop takes three minutes to boot and hangs when you open Chrome, the problem is almost never the processor. It is the old hard disk. An SSD upgrade is the single best value repair in computing: a five-year-old laptop genuinely feels new afterward. Here is what it costs with everything included.
SSD Upgrade Cost (installed, with data transfer)
- 500GB SATA or NVMe SSD: RM 250 – RM 380
- 1TB SSD: RM 350 – RM 500
- 2TB SSD: RM 500 – RM 700
- Install only, if you bring your own SSD: RM 80 – RM 150
- Extra RAM at the same time: add RM 100 – RM 300 depending on capacity
What you actually feel after the upgrade
- Boot time drops from minutes to around 15 seconds.
- Apps open immediately instead of after a thinking pause.
- No more hard disk grinding noise. SSDs have no moving parts.
- Battery lasts a bit longer, since spinning a disk costs power.
- File copies and updates finish in a fraction of the time.
Your files come along
We clone the old drive onto the new SSD: Windows, your programs, your files, your wallpaper, everything exactly where you left it. You get the laptop back faster and log in like nothing happened. If the old Windows install is itself a mess of bloat and leftover toolbars, a fresh install plus copying your files over is the better route, and we will suggest it when it is.
Which laptops are worth upgrading
Any laptop from roughly 2015 onward with a decent i5, i7, or Ryzen processor is a great candidate. The processor was never the bottleneck; the disk was. The honest exceptions: laptops with soldered storage (most MacBooks after 2016 cannot be upgraded), and very old machines where RM 400 is better saved toward a replacement. A two-minute check tells us which category yours is in.
How long it takes
The swap itself is quick. The clone depends on how much data the old disk holds and how slow it is, so the honest answer is two to five hours total. Usually same-day, drop off in the morning and collect in the afternoon.
